- Venture Global LNG Inc. is looking to import at least three liquefied natural gas cargoes to aid in commissioning of Plaquemines LNG, according to a Department of Energy (DOE) filing.
- The Virginia-based company asked DOE for permission to import up to 600 MMcf over a two-year period. The company also asked for imports to begin in mid-June, and expects all LNG cargoes to be received later this year.
- Venture Global told DOE it expects LNG production at Plaquemines to begin by mid-2024 and that sourcing LNG for cooling down the facility is the “optimal method” to begin start-up on schedule.
- New Fortress Energy Inc. (NFE) reported a malfunction during start-up at its offshore export terminal in Altamira, Mexico, that injured several workers. In a statement, NFE said it experienced a “minor mechanical issue” with the platform’s cold box unit, but commissioning of the terminal isn’t expected to be delayed.
- QatarEnergy has signed a deal with China State Shipbuilding Corp. for the construction and delivery of 18 QC-Max size LNG carriers. Valued at $6 billion, it is considered to be the largest LNG shipbuilding contract to date.
