Miriam's story

If being resilient is one of the necessary qualities to starting a business, I got that covered! I graduated from Flagler College with a double major in Political Science and Communications and navigated my way through The Great Recession doing everything from working in the U.S. Senate to managing a retail store. In 2014, engaged and not looking forward to wedding dress shopping, I decided to transform my grandmother's wedding dress into my own, not knowing it would be incredibly time consuming and cost more than a brand new dress. Shortly after my wedding and graduating from business school in 2018, I set out a new mission: Create a smarter, more personalized, cost-efficient and sustainable wedding dress experience that is more in line with how we actually live our lives today. My years as an entrepreneur have allowed me to tap into my tenacity, resilience and unending curiosity. As a Black female founder bootstrapping a brand new business model, I’ve learned that where there’s a will… there’s a way!

I (Lundyn) met Miriam, my co-founder, in 2019 at a conference for female founders in Silicon Valley, and we instantly became friends. In the spring of 2022, I asked her to join me as co-founder in scaling Laine London. Her deep experience in luxury retail combined with her operational expertise has added energy and rigor to our sales process. While Miriam lives in Brooklyn and I live in Atlanta, we joke that we get more done when we’re apart because we divide and conquer like champions! We work out at 6 AM three times a week over zoom, getting our minds and bodies game-day ready to take on any challenge thrown our way. I have a post-it on my bathroom mirror that I read everyday that says “Everything that comes my way is either a blessing or a challenge—which is really just a blessing in disguise. Both will help me get to where I want to go.” Together, Miriam and I run the business drawing inspiration from leaders we admire from across all sectors - we love the integrity of businesswoman, investor and part-owner of the Denver Broncos, Mellody Hobson (#goals!), the innovation and scale of SKIMS Ceo Jens Grede and the marketing savvy of Paris Hilton (yes, we said it!).

Our dream for the future, following the success of Laine London, is to help other underrepresented founders bring relevant products and ideas to the world.
